Love and Other Conspiracies

Bigfoot’s existence might be uncertain, but the appeal of this novel is undeniable.

Hallie Barrett isn’t one to believe in cryptids or conspiracy theories, but her new web series co-host may just make her a believer—in love, at least.

After her toxic ex-partner cuts her from their joint project, Hallie has to pitch a fresh series to keep her job at Skroll, a major multimedia company. Late one night, while watching a conspiracy docuseries, she becomes intrigued by Hayden Hargrove, the charming host of a cryptid-themed podcast, The Out There. As a skeptic, Hallie feels that if Hayden’s enthusiasm can captivate even her, he’s got potential as a web series star. Yet they soon find Hayden shines brightest with Hallie by his side, so she steps in as co-host. As their viewership climbs, so do Hallie’s feelings for the genuine and compassionate Hayden. But her lingering self-doubt, fueled by her critical ex, holds her back. Narrated entirely from Hallie’s perspective, this quirky and heartwarming debut will resonate with those who believe in love and with anyone intrigued by cryptids and conspiracies. The mystery and adventure add fun, but the story’s emotional core is what makes it truly captivating, as Hallie wrestles with her self-esteem and Hayden confronts his loneliness and grief.

The existence of Bigfoot may be uncertain, but the charm of this novel is beyond question.
